Why not, right?

WELCOME!!

There is something called the Blogger's Quilt Festival going on over at Amy's Creative Side.  Bloggers can enter quilts they have made into this festival.  Readers can select their favorites in different categories beginning Nov 1st.  I thought I might throw my hat in the mix for fun.  I'm entering this quilt in the small quilts category.  Why not, right?

I call this quilt Drip Drop.  I paper pieced the crossed canoe blocks and rearranged them for a more modern feel.  (The traditional placement is supposed to go something a little more like this .)  It took a long time for me to find this arrangement, but I love it.  Here's a taste of my craziness:

I used a selection of pastel solids I bought in a box from Michael Miller and the backing is an awesome sale fabric I managed to stumble upon.  I started with the cool bird backing and pulled the solids to match.

It's quilted in straight lines with a variegated pastel thread.  This also just so happens to be the first quilt I quilted with my new heavy-duty sewing machine.  Trying to sew through those fat points of the quilt top was way too much for my old machine.  Let me tell you, it was fun plowing right through them with my new machine!  I was actually happily laughing out loud while doing it.  I'm pretty sure my husband thought I had lost it.

The quilt is approximately 41x33.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day...

  5. I've always been a fan of crossed canoes. I love how you played with the units and rearranged them. I never would have thought of that. Very cool!
